Unidentified Magenta Ooze on Secluded Tasmanian Coast Raises Anxiety of Possible Algae Outbreak
Agencies in Tasmania are striving to determine a magenta ooze that has surfaced on a secluded beach, with a number of researchers concerned it could be an phytoplankton proliferation.

The pink-tinged sludge was found on a section of Randalls Bay about 60km south of Hobart. A comparable ooze has also been recorded on parts of Little Roaring Beach and Little Taylors Bay.

A campaigner, who gathered specimens of the pink sludge in Tasmania, stated it appeared the possible outbreak had "increased notably" and proposed the salmon farming industry was the probable cause, citing like situations elsewhere.
